Cost your recipes and see which menu items earn their spot

Build recipe cost cards with real unit costs and sub-recipes, fix missing costs, link recipes to what you sell, and use Menu Engineering to decide what to feature, reprice or drop.

When your recipes have ingredients and are linked to the items you sell, Ospelia can show what each plate really costs you.

Build a recipe

  1. Go to Menu & Recipes → Recipes.
  2. Click + New recipe.
  3. Give it a name, a brand and a type (drink or food).
  4. Add the ingredients and amounts. Pick each ingredient from your inventory so it uses your real cost. The cost adds up as you go.
  5. Set the yield, like 12 portions, to get the cost per portion.
  6. Add the menu price to see your margin.

Units convert on their own within weight, volume and count. If an ingredient uses a unit that doesn't convert, like "1 pump", add a conversion on the inventory item.

To use one recipe inside another, like a syrup in a latte, type Recipe: name as the ingredient.

Filter by Drinks or Food, and by Live, Drafts or Archived. Switch between Cards and Table to change the layout. Click Allergen matrix to see allergens across your recipes in one grid.

Fix missing costs

Click Missing costs to see every ingredient without a real cost. For each one you can Link it to an inventory item, Add to inventory, set a cost, or save a conversion. When everything has a cost you'll see Every ingredient has a cost. Nice work.

  1. Go to Menu & Recipes → Menu Engineering.
  2. Pick a brand and a period, like Last 30 days.
  3. For each item, pick its recipe from the link recipe… menu on its row.

Linked items use your recipe costs. Linking also feeds your prep lists and the actual vs. expected use report.

Read Menu Engineering

Every item is placed by how often it sells and how much of its price you keep. The table shows sold, revenue, menu price, cost, margin and class.

  • Stars: keep and feature them.
  • Plowhorses: popular but thin. Nudge the price or trim the cost.
  • Puzzles: profitable but slow. Promote them.
  • Dogs: rework or drop them.

Build menu boards

  1. Go to Menu & Recipes → Menu Builder → Menu.
  2. Click + New menu board.

Boards build from your recipes, so categories, sizes and prices come straight from Recipes. Each board has a live link you can show on a screen.

Plan new menu items

Go to Menu & Recipes → Menu Builder → Drink & food planning and click + New menu drop. Mark each new item as idea, testing or ready, and link it to a recipe.
